About

Research Interest
Presently, I am working as Project Scientist-II at the Hydrology Group of the National Centre for Earth Science Studies (NCESS). My research aims to reconstruct paleoclimate using coastal and freshwater lake sediments of western India. I am also involved in establishing a wet chemical laboratory for sediment processing in the Hydrology Group.
After completion of MSc (Geology) from M.G. Science Institute, Gujarat University, I joined Gujarat Ecological Education and Research Foundation (GEER F.), Forests & Environment Department, Government of Gujarat.
After completing my MSc in Geology from the MG Science Institute, Gujarat University, I joined Gujarat Ecological Education and Research Foundation (GEERF), Gandhinagar, Gujarat wherein I was involved in development and outreach activities pertaining to Dinosaur Park and Earth Section and ecological research on Corals and Coral reefs. Later, I joined Physical Research Laboratory (PRL), Ahmedabad, Gujarat, to study past climatic conditions under an International Project GEOTRACES. Simultaneously, I pursued PhD on mid-late Holocene climate and sea-level variability using mudflats sediment from the Southern Saurashtra coast, Gujarat. My Post-Doctoral research at PRL dealt with the isotopic and geochemical significance of coral skeletons. At National Centre for Earth Science Studies (NCESS), Trivandrum, I was focusing on paleomonsoon reconstruction using marine and lake sediments using multiproxy approach with the aim to decipher the association of the Indian monsoon with natural forcing factors and other climate variables. Presently, I am working at the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), Delhi wherein I am coordinating the projects submitted under GEOSCIENCES division of the MoES.

Global climate change and unexplained variations in the Indian monsoon have been pressing issues in the last few decades. Moreover, the Indian monsoon has been found to be significantly impacted by global climate dynamics. The inexplicable variabilities in the Indian and global climate can be understood based on extensive climate datasets from the past. However, the limited extent of the instrumental data impedes the extensive investigation of the conspicuous changes in the climate system. The restricted datasets invigorated my interest in past climate and past monsoon reconstruction using natural archives such as sediments and corals. To date, I have extensively worked on the marine, coastal and continental sediment and have also explored coral skeleton for inferring the ocean dynamics and its association with the recent climate system. My research interest lies in the reconstruction of paleoclimate and paleoceanography for the last few millennia extending up to the late Quaternary Period. Additionally, I am also keen to address the linkage of the climate variables such as ocean-atmospheric processes, the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) and natural forcings like orbital, solar, volcanic, etc with the earth’s climate system.
